Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage. And when you decide to get married, you know that you've found the one person that not only puts a smile on your face but in your heart as well. Such is the wedding tale of Swati & Abhishek, a couple that had a wonderful relationship full of romantic nuances, which culminated into a happy union. And what had us even more taken was their picturesque wedding, whose traditional vibe was a refreshing sight.

In the beautiful valleys of Kashmir, a wedding is the celebration of tradition and beauty. Kashmiri wedding is a thing to behold, with the bride and groom resplendent in tasteful traditional dresses and oodles of glittering gold jewellery. From rituals to décor to food, Kashmiris take pride in their traditions. Scroll down to check out the couple's gorgeous #AbhigotSwayed traditional Kashmiri wedding that took our breath away in one glance!

Introducing Swati & Abhishek's Kashmiri Wedding in Noida

"Abhishek and I met in college when I was auditioning for the Dramatics Society he was heading," Swati recalled her story, "However, our interaction in college was minimal and we even lost touch for over 3 years."

Surprisingly, it was Abhishek who caught up with Swati after 3 years of no contact, asking to meet her. And she said yes, which was followed by a short moment of reconnection at a dog cafe, "Both of us were avid trekkers and with this point in mind, he organised a fake trekking trip and asked me to join him and his friends. And when I did reach the bus stand, I realised it was just him and I along with some random college groups."

Yet, Swati went on the trek with Abhishek, and as fate would have it, they felt a real connection between each other right as they touched the summit, "We haven't looked back ever since. Travel connected us and since then we have climbed Mt. Fuji together, went on a road trip in Iceland, experienced -30 degrees in Leh in December and almost died while sliding on snow!"

As time passed on, Swati and Abhishek realised that it was time to take their relationship to the next step, and start chasing unexplored parts of the world as a married couple! So, the couple tied the knot and had a gorgeous Kashmiri wedding, with all the amazing pre-wedding ceremonies on Swati's side, making her one of our first #KashmiriBrides that stole our hearts away.

Intimate Engagement Ceremony

The couple #AbhigotSwayed held their engagement in the basement of Swati's parent's home. Decorated with gorgeous white decor and green leaves along with white flowers, the venue looked gorgeous for an intimate gathering of the couple's family and friends. Swati dressed up in a gorgeous jade green saree with a golden blouse and completed the look with minimal makeup that she did herself and a low bun with white roses tucked underneath. Abhishek decided to keep it simple yet smart with a black suit.

Swati's Traditionl Masmuchrun

For the Masmuchrun ceremony, Swati kept it simple yet pretty in a pastel pink suit. The bride-to-be was laden in new jewellery by her family along with a ritual where her hair was braided into tiny braids. The Masmuchrun ritual is significant in Kashmiri weddings, where the elder women of the family oil the bride’s hair and tie them in tiny braids.

Bride's Devgon Ceremony

Another glimpse into a traditional Kashmiri wedding was given to us through the Devgon ceremony. A very significant pre-wedding ceremony, the Devgon marks the transition of the bride from the Brahmacharya ashram to the Grihastha Ashram. The bride and groom worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati in their respective homes because this ceremony is observed separately. The family members and relatives of the bride and groom who participate in this ceremony keep a fast on the previous day. This ceremony is conducted before the holy fire by the family priest. This ceremony also includes gifts like utensils and jewellery given to the bride by her family.  A significant item in the jewellery that is gifted to the bride by her family includes dejaharu - an ornament worn in the ear that is made of gold tassels strung together on a sacred thread. It is supposed to pass through the middle-ear cartilage.

Kanisharan is also a significant part of the Devgon ceremony itself. During this ritual, the bride and the groom are bathed in a mixture of water, rice, milk and curd. Along with these, flower petals are also showered on them. After this ritual, the to-be-wed bride changes into a new set of traditional wear.

Fun-Filled Sangeet Night

The Sangeet ceremony took place before the wedding, where the bride and groom's respective families and friends got together to celebrate the soon to happen wedding. With celebrations in full swing the entire night, the couple was all smiles during the sangeet function. Dressed in a pretty yellow lehenga, Swati looked like a Springfield daydream for the function.

An authentic Kashmiri Wedding

You know what's one of the most unique things in bridal fashion that we've seen on Kashmiri brides but rarely talked about? The quintessential head-gear called a 'targa'. A Targa symbolises and distinguishes a Kashmiri bride, just like it made Swati's entire bridal ensemble look unique. Dressed in a pastel pink-peach lehenga with silver embroidery, Swati looked like a million bucks especially when she finished her look with minimal glowy makeup and light jewellery. Abhishek also chose a pastel ensemble, donning a dapper cream-coloured sherwani with a pink-peach safa that matched Swati's lehenga.

Wedding Vendor Reviews

Wedding Photographer: Let's Get Wed by Nik

Nikhel and his team has been a great part of our wedding. He understood our taste and was always open to try out different poses and shots. He aced our pre-wedding shoot where in we ended up getting some amazing captures. Since, me and Abhishek had parallel events, Nikhel sent other members of his team who were equally good and outperformed at our wedding.

Wedding Venue: Grand Villas, Noida

I had my Sangeet and Main Wedding at Grand Villas. The venue is exquisite and one of the bests I have seen in Noida. The decor is tastefully done with a lot of modern instagrammable spots. The team at Grand Villas is very prompt and we didn't face any issues or had any arguments over management. They outdid their menu and everybody loved the food served. They handled the decor, food and music all by themselves.

Wedding Decorator: Bonvera Weddings

I had my engagement in the basement of my house and wanted the decor to reflect the festivity of the occasion. I came across Bonvera Weddings who converted my empty basement into a beautiful scenery of lamps, flowers and lovely fairy lights. They were always on time and took care of every corner of the house and made sure it looked photo-worthy. Harsh and Madhu were get folks and also helped me setup some last-minute even decorations.

Hairstylists: Rohit Singh

I contacted Rohit through Instagram to get my floral bun for my engagement. I did my makeup myself and wanted to have an OTT floral bun. Rohit is very talented and made sure all my requests were met. The hair was done beautifully and went very well with my regal engagement look.

Hairstylists: Abdul

I contacted Abdul for my Sangeet event. I did my own makeup and wanted an easy-to-carry hair as I had my plans of dancing all night. Abdul is extremely talented and would highly recommend his work. He ended up doing 6 hairstyles and aced every single one of them.

Bridal Makeup Artist: Kavya Malik

I came across Kavya's profile via Instagram. Her makeup skills are impeccable. She asked for the type of makeup I wanted and tried to keep it as natural as possible. She used all luxury brands and completely nailed the look. The only feedback I have is for the draping artist she accompanied. My dupatta draping went all over the place and that could have been avoided by choosing a better artist.

Jewellery: Jalansons Jewellers

A family-run business of jewellers who specialise in diamond jewellery. I had very specific designs in mind and they made all my jewellery exactly like the way I wanted. They have an in-house designer who helped me choose from multiple options and aced my wedding jewellery and all my diamond rings.
