As they say, not all stories are written by fate. Because some stories seem straight out of Bollywood films. Today’s story is a typical Hindi film. Ashima and Akhil decided to get married after 5 years of dating. But the long-distance made the wedding planning a little tough. Akhil specially came to India from the US for a few weeks, so that he could help Ashima with all the wedding planning. Be it the invitation cards or wedding decor, everything had to be finalised by the couple together.

Being a consultant by profession, our bride loves to be organised. She made different excel sheets to keep track of all the expenses and costs. The couple did not have a wedding planner. They browsed through Pinterest, Instagram and other sites for the latest ideas. According to Ashima, her sister was her go-to person. She took the responsibility of everything and still managed to jazz up the wedding ceremonies. Aren’t sisters the best?

This couple had a blast at their wedding. With lots of dancing, #AkhilKiAshHogayi wedding had the most dreamy & beautiful mandap decor. 🌼

Meet Akhil & Ashima

"As a couple, friendship is everything for us. We were best buddies in college. But it was after college when we realised that we are way more than just friends. It was our ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ moment. It was a love marriage but we have the pact to be best friends before lovers. We have known each other for 9 years and been in a relationship for the past 5 years. But the last 3 years were the crucial ones as Akhil moved to the USA. We tried cute ways to stay connected through this long-distance relationship. Video calls and virtual date nights are our favourites. With our experience at this, we can write a book on '100 tips for acing a long-distance relationship," said Ashima!😉

Pre-Wedding Photoshoot

Just like their love story, their photo shoot was a little different too. Instead of having cheesy poses, the bride called all her bridesmaids. This unique idea amped up the pre-wedding shoot. These pictures are all heart. Take some inspo and have a not-so-cheesy photoshoot.

Engagement & Sangeet

To look royal and elegant, Ashima chose a teal blue double shaded velvet lehenga with mirror work. Since the engagement and sangeet night was on the same night, Ashima wanted to keep her outfit comfortable. That is why she ditched the cliché bulky gown for this unique lehenga. On the other hand, Akhil wore a stunning blue bandhgala with dhoti style pants, and he looked dapper. After exchanging the rings, their relatives and friends mesmerised everyone with their dance performances.

Haldi Ceremony

The next on the list was a fun-filled Haldi ceremony where our bride Ashima looked gorgeous in her yellow bandhani saree. She adorned pretty white floral jewellery with the outfit + the Haldi ceremony decor was decked up with tons of genda phool that made the venue so stunning. From the entrance to the photobooth, the decor was all peppy. Well, we bet you that these Haldi pictures will surely melt your heart away.

The Wedding Day Followed With A Reception Party

For the wedding outfit, Ashima kept it traditional with deep Fuchsia silk lehenga with intricate embroidery. Her minimal hairdo with dainty jewellery is definitely personifying elegance and grace. Akhil wore a classy off-white Manyavar sherwani teamed up with a Fuchsia coloured safe that complemented perfectly with the bride’s lehenga beautifully. But what stole the show was the enchanted forest themed mandap. For the sundowner pheras, the bride wanted to have a mystical mandap and we could not deny that it looked so magical. Not to forget that our bride also had a hatke bridal entry where she ditched the phoolon ki chaadar and entered with her mother’s embroidered dupatta that was beautifully adorned with fairy lights. As far as the reception party is concerned a special performance was arranged by the bride’s father (who belonged to the army background) and had a typical army band graced the event that was worth applauding. 🕺🎺

Tips For Couples Planning Their Weddings

OMG! What a cute wedding, right? Ashima was a really sweet bride and with her own experience, she wrote down some tips for the couples who are planning their wedding soon.

  • It’s very easy to get overwhelmed by choices and decisions. Take your time to convince yourself and take decisions afterward. The shopkeepers will always force you to make quick decisions but stand your ground!
  • Choose all your vendors carefully. Read reviews, talk to people who hired them (if you have friends who opted for them). Know about them and check if they match your vibe or not. Remember your vibe attracts your tribe. Having a team that is less hassle to work with and still aces their pro game will just help you enjoy your day more. Such a team comes at a price, but then you live your day once.
  • Have a plan of action in place! I love working in an organised fashion, so I maintained an excel for all things wedding. It helps you to be in charge of your wedding
  • Focus on the little details. These make all the difference in making your day special, unique and memorable forever.
  • Take out time to finalise even the smallest details. From your dance performances to slide shows, manage time to decide everything,
  • Music is very important. Have a list of songs ready and keep a person assigned who would coördinate all the songs at all important moments of the wedding.
