For a bride to be, an important area of attention is her trousseau. Selecting the right trousseau is no child’s play. It requires serious dedication and a lot of effort. If not planned well, you will land up buying a lot of stuff that’s unnecessary and overlooking the essentials. 1. Buying clothes that are too fitted

We are not asking you to buy outfits one size lose, but they should not be very fitted too. The late-night honeymoon binges and elaborate lunches will surely make you gain a few inches here and there earlier than you would've imagined. And trust us, it will break your heart to get your expensive trousseau outfits altered that soon.

2. Shopping excessively for the honeymoon

Whether you will like to believe it or not, your honeymoon will end sooner than your expectations. Count the number of days you are going for and only pick up outfits for that many days. Also, with the baggage limits on airlines getting stringent by the day there are chances that you will be traveling very light.

3. Buying season’s IT trends

Don’t go overboard buying what is trending in the season. Stop idolizing celebrity fashion. Wearing knee-length boots to enhance your airport look is an absolute no-no. Similarly, no matter how latest dhoti cuts or pastels are, don’t make your trousseau only about them. Classics will come handy even when the latest fashion fades off. This holds true, particularly for heavier outfits.

4. Ignoring casual wear

Post marriage, you will be needing clothes for day ceremonies, office, movie nights or just casual lunches with your friends. Don’t invest heavily in only one type of outfit, buy a range of them. White shirts, knee length dresses, cotton kurtas, black trousers, a pair of silver earrings, a few classic stoles are trousseau staples that should not be forgotten.

5. Investing in a lot of unnecessary makeup

6. Bling is not always in

Don’t go overboard only buying bling clutches. Just 1 or two golden/silver hues will be sufficient. Instead, buy bags in different shapes and sizes. You will definitely be needing a chic tote, a medium-sized zipper, a crossbody, the evening party clutch and an everyday shoulder bag.

7. Buying fancy footwear over comfortable ones

Yes, after marriage you will be running errands and I girl can’t conquer the world if her shoes are hurting. Also, don’t go overboard with heels. You will be definitely needing diversity here as well. Invest in ballerinas, wedges, kitten heels, juttis, kolhapuris and a few pair of flats too. Make sure your shoe collection has colors that easily team up with any outfit. Black, blues, nudes, and tans are easily worn with everything.

8. Forgetting toiletries

Trousseau shopping is exhausting. It’s not only about buying the best of makeup, shoes, and clothes. After marriage you will be needing a plethora of stuff. Starting with a toothbrush, facial cleansers, hairbrush, hair fixers, hair straighteners, towelettes, face wipes, hand napkins to bath and body works soaps and scented candles you will be needing them all. Phew!

9. Stocking up a bit too much

Don’t do the mistake of stocking up on your favorite products. They will get expired in a flash. And, you must check the expiry dates of the products that you are ordering online. Sometimes they intentionally sell stuff which is nearing its expiry. Also, buying anything in excess is always a bad idea.

10. Fretting

You are getting married, not escaping to an island. If there is anything that has missed your attention you can always buy it later. What is more important is to have an everyday basic list ready and the rest can be dealt with later too.

It will be a great idea to start from the must have’s and then slowly move to the luxuries. Many of us land up doing the vice-versa which is the first invitation to trouble. If you still can’t overlook the temptations. make a list and move on to it backward.
